Master Classes 2016

We invite you to participate in the Second International Masterclass Course organized by the Mieczysław Karłowicz Association as part of the VIIIth “Music on the Heights” International Chamber Music Festival, Zakopane, 3-10.09.2016. The deadline for applications is 07.31.2016.

Course participants will have the incredible opportunity to work with masters of chamber music in workshops in order to more fully develop their skills and thus they will be able to participate in all the events of this year’s festival.

This year’s Masterclass Course will be conducted by:
Shirley Brill – clarinet class (5-8.09.2016)
Jonathan Aner – chamber music and piano class ( 5-8.09.2016)
Royal String Quartet:  Izabella Szałaj-Zimak (violin), Elvira Przybyłowska (violin), Marek Czech (viola), Michał Pepol (cello) – chamber ensembles, individual lessons (4-9.09.2016).

Featured course participants will perform in front of the festival audience during the final concert of the Second International Masterclass Courses, which will take place on 9 September at the Town Gallery [Galeria Miejska] in Zakopane.

  • The CLARINET class will be led by Shirley BRILL, one of the most outstanding clarinetists in the world and a professor at the “Hans Eisler” Academy of Music in Berlin. During her career she has won two important music competitions in Markneukirchen (Germany) and in Geneva (Switzerland). She also won the Special Prize at the ARD International Competition in Munich. She has played with artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Sabine Meyer, Emmanuel Pahud, and the Jerusalem Quartet. She has performed at many prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Musikverein in Vienna, La Scala in Milan, the KKL in Lucerne. She regularly performs with the pianist Jonathan Aner, with whom she has formed the much praised Brillaner Duo which performs all over the world.
  • PIANO CHAMBER music covers a wide range of musical forms involving a sophisticated approach to ensemble playing. This class will be lead by Jonathan ANER, a professor at the “Hans Eisler” Academy of Music in Berlin who is a very experienced musician and has received many awards. As a soloist he has performed with the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta, as well as with the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also played with Tabea Zimmermann, the Jerusalem String Quartet and the Vogler String Quartet. He is part of the Brillaner Duo and the Oberon Trio, with whom he regularly performs at such venues as the Berliner Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall, the Auditorium du Louvre (Paris), the Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Conde Duque (Madrid), House of Music (Moscow), and Tivoli Hall (Copenhagen).
  • CHAMBER ENSEMBLES and individual lessons will be led by members of the Royal String Quartet: Izabella Szałaj-Zimak, Elwira Przybyłowska, Marek Czech, Michał Pepol. The Royal String Quartet is one of the most dynamic string quartets in the world today. Their repertoire combines outstanding works of the past and new music, boldly crossing the borders of genres. A turning point in the career of the quartet was when they were invited to participate in the prestigious BBC programme New Generation Artists (2004-2006), promoting the most talented young musicians from around the world. Their albums gain worldwide recognition. They have been recognized by, among others, music magazines such as Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine and Diapason. Their 2015 album featuring works by Szymański and Mykietyn has received two nominations for this year’s Fryderyk award. Since 2012, the RSQ has been resident at Queen’s University in Belfast. The quartet was honoured with the Special Award of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage “in recognition of their contribution to Polish culture”.
